A Bracelet with a Story to Tell™:
Bohemian Waxwing Bracelet Inspiration: Alaska has some beautiful mountain ash trees with their red berries and pretty shape. Because they’re also pretty small, as far as a tree goes, you can also see in the tree very well. That comes in handy because the Bohemian Waxwings love to feast on their berries all winter long, and I love to watch them.
I always thought they were Cedar Waxwings, but when I began researching for this bracelet, I learned that they’re actually Bohemian Waxwings.
What’s the difference? Well, the biggest difference is that “Bohemian Waxwings have gray bellies and rich cinnamon under the tail whereas Cedar Waxwings have yellowish bellies and white under the tail,” according to allaboutbirds (dot) org.
According to stpaulislandtour (dot) com regarding Cedar Waxwings, are “An uncommon species in southeastern Alaska, this species is a rare visitor to Southcentral Alaska in fall and winter.” However, the Bohemian Waxwings overwinter in Alaska, and you can even spot them right in town, even in downtown Anchorage.
They love to eat the bright red berries of the Mountain Ash trees. I love to watch them fly in flocks over my house.
Our Bohemian Waxwing Bracelet uses a matte black bead in the center of the bracelet to represent the black beak. The rosewood beads on either sides of the center bead represent the cinnamon color feathers around the beak.
Next, we used gray druzy beads on either side of the Rosewood to represent the gray feathers. On either side of the gray druzy beads, we’ve used white Howlite to represent the light underbelly of the bird.
We followed up after the white Howlite with another black matte bead on either side again to represent their black legs. Their tailfeathers are represented by a Quartz Crystal chip and a yellow Jasper to represent their gorgeous bright yellow tailfeathers.
So, have you seen one of these adorable little birds?
This is a stretch bracelet to fit most wrists.
