Bracelets with a story to tell™
Valdez Bracelet Inspiration: Well, the whole town of Valdez inspired us. I’ll tell you what else inspired us. On the same day, within hours of each other, I had two different ladies ask me if we have a Valdez bracelet. Interestingly, I’ve been working on four bracelets that weren’t ringing my bells. Valdez moved right up to the top of the list!
I saw a photo online of a couple of kayakers in the gray silty water with small icebergs floating around them, and I instantly knew what my inspiration was.
You see, Valdez is gorgeous! The drive through Keystone Canyon with all the waterfalls, the fishing, the glacier tours, glacier kayaking, hiking, museums, microbreweries, helicopter tours, friendly locals, and more make Valdez one of the favorite small towns for Alaskans.
Valdez is small; just under 4,000 people call it home. I was curious how Valdez got its name and learned Valdez was named in 1790 after the Spanish Navy Minister Antonio Valdés y Fernández Bazán.
If you’re in Anchorage, you better fill up the car before you head to Valdez because you’re looking at a 5 to 6 hour drive, probably more because you’re going to pull over for all the gorgeous scenery on the way!
Valdez is the United States' farthest north ice free port. Port Valdez is a fjord in Prince William Sound, and it is also the southern terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
Alaskan Interpretation: When I saw the picture of the kayakers among the floating icebergs, the magic happened.
I used gray druzy beads for the color of the silty water fed by glaciers, and then I used quartz crystal chips to mimic the small icebergs that were surrounding the kayakers. The glittery druzy and the quartz chips really symbolize the ice and how it glistens.
I hope you love Valdez as much as all the Alaskans!
