PRODUCT STORY

A Bracelet with a Story to Tell™

Lupine Bracelet Inspiration: This bracelet was inspired by a beautiful photo that was taken by @edson_alaska.  Lupine, pronounced loo-pen, are abundant in our area, and when you are blessed with a sea of them, it will take your breath away!

Lupinus nootkatensis is the Latin name, and it’s called Arctic Lupine or Alaska Lupine here.

Did you know that lupine is a member of the pea family?  Some are poisonous, and some hve medicinal qualities.

Lupine grows best in poor soil.  Apparently, we have a lot of that here!

According to alaska.org, “The flowers are pea-like, blue to violet in color and grow in dense clusters at the top of the stem with younger flowers above, older below.   The seed pods are brown and open explosively to release the seeds.”

In the Lower 48, lupine is called bluebonnet, among other names.  I have to tell you, being from the Lower 48, I’d never seen it until I got up here.  Do you have these in your area?

Our Interpretation: I have been working on this bracelet for quite some time.  I was inspired by a photo that Edson took, and as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to make a bracelet.

The dark purple amethyst represent the oldest blooms at the base of the stem.  I next used lepidolite on either side of the amethyst to represent the blossoms midway up the stem.   The white jade at the top of the bracelet represents the youngest blossoms at the top of the stem.  The 14k gold-filled spacers and bead represent the joy you feel when spotting a field of lupine!
