Fairbanks Inspiration: Fairbanks, Alaska. The Golden Heart City.
According to Wikipedia, “In 1911, the Fairbanks Commercial Club, a group of businesses, created the slogan "Fairbanks, Alaska's Golden Heart." The slogan remains the city's motto today.”
Fairbanks bustles year-round with activity. No, winter doesn’t stop Alaskans. We just dress for it.
Want to see the northern lights? Fairbanks is your best bet. Located under the Auroral Oval, if it’s dark enough and clear enough, you’ve got a great chance. Aurora season is August 21 through April 21.
Want to enjoy soaking in a natural hot spring? Just 60 miles up the road is Chena Hot Springs. The spring is about 5 feet deep at its deepest and naturally fed. I know it’s about 5 feet deep because I’m 5 feet tall. If I stand on my tippy toes, tilt my head all the way back, I can keep my nose above water in the deepest end. LOL!
Want to see dog musher’s in action? Fairbanks! There’s more dogsledding tours than you can shake a stick at.
Want to see a baseball game played at midnight? Fairbanks! The Midnight Sun Baseball Game is held on Summer Solstice each June, and, yes, it’s played at midnight!
Want to tour a cool museum? Fairbanks! The Museum of the North is what you’re looking for.
Want to meet friendly people? Fairbanks! You won’t mean people any friendlier. Fairbanksians are generous, fun-loving, friendly, and helpful people. Looking for the best restaurant, tour, shop, etc., just ask a local.
I think you see what I’m getting at. While Fairbanks may be located in the interior with some pretty warm summer temps and some really cold winter temps, there’s a lot going on in Fairbanks.
